Basic types of mechanical seals: single seal, double seal and multiple seals
Only a pair of end face friction pairs are sealed as single seals;
The seal composed of two pairs of end face friction pairs is a double seal;
The seal composed of more than two pairs of end face friction pairs is a multi-end face mechanical seal.
The single seal has a simple structure and is most commonly used.
When the single end face mechanical seal cannot meet the requirements, double seals or multiple seals can be used.
The double seal has an axial double end face mechanical seal and a radial double end face mechanical seal. The structure of the latter is more compact than the former. The axial double end face mechanical seal has a back-to-back or face-to-face arrangement structure. In addition, there are double seals arranged in series.
The feature of the double seal is that the friction between the two end face friction pairs can be filled with intermediate fluid-blocking fluid (commonly known as air-sealing, oil-sealing, water-sealing, liquid-sealing) or buffer fluid. When the intermediate blocking fluid pressure is greater than the sealed fluid pressure (usually >0.05~0.15MPA) and atmospheric pressure, the double seal is used as a blocking seal; when the intermediate buffer fluid pressure is lower than the sealed fluid pressure but higher than the atmospheric pressure, the double seal Used as a series seal.
