The width of the sealing surface of a mechanical seal is also an important macroscopic geometric parameter. The frictional heat generated is proportional to the width of the sealing end face. If the sealing end face is too wide, the heat generated will increase the temperature of the sealing face, but if the sealing face is too narrow, the contact pressure of the sealing face will increase, wear will increase, and the leakage will increase.
