As long as the surface roughness and flatness of the main sealing surface can meet the requirements, as long as the material has good wear resistance, the mechanical seal can achieve very little leakage, even invisible to the naked eye.

The Japanese Industrial Standard "General Specification for Mechanical Seals" stipulates that when the sealing medium is liquid, the leakage volume is usually below 3ml/H, but for special circumstances and when the sealing medium is gas, it is not subject to this limit.

The former Soviet Union's "Quality Requirements for Product Inspection of End Face Seals for Centrifugal Oil Pumps" stipulated that the leakage of the kerosene test bench should not exceed 3ml/H (shaft seal box pressure 2.5MPA, n=3000r/min).

According to China's "Technical Conditions for Mechanical Seals", the normal temperature clean water test, the average leakage of shaft (or sleeve) when the outer diameter of the shaft (or sleeve) is greater than 50mm, not more than 5ml/H, and the shaft (or sleeve) of the outer diameter is not greater than 50mm, the leakage is not more than 3ml/H.
