In order to ensure that the mechanical seal works under a stable liquid film, gas film or mixed phase film, the temperature of each part of the mechanical seal should be properly controlled. The first thing to consider is the problem of gasification in the sealed box. When selecting the liquid end face seal or determining its working conditions, it is necessary to consider not to make the temperature of the liquid in the sealed box exceed the vaporization temperature or the pressure in the sealed box maintains higher than the saturated vapor pressure, so as to avoid the vaporization of the liquid in the sealed box. The liquid film is unstable. Sometimes the shaft seal is liquefied or gasified due to pump evacuation, so it is necessary to take structural measures to prevent evacuation and take corresponding cooling measures in operation.
There may be two cases of liquid film vaporization in the gap between the sealing surfaces: one is that the frictional heat fails to be discharged and forms a comprehensive vaporization, which causes accidental leakage; the other is that the partial vaporization between the sealing surfaces causes cavitation (gas eclipse). The former will appear comet-like texture on the sealing surface, due to flash evaporation (intermittent oscillation, spray leakage); while the latter just form pitting on the sealing surface.
