The auxiliary seal of the mechanical seal is an important part to ensure the reliability of the seal and prolong the service life. The auxiliary seal includes the auxiliary seal ring of the dynamic ring and the static ring. Its function is to ensure the sealing between the static ring seat (gland) and the static ring between the sealed shaft and the moving ring, to compensate for the deflection and vibration of the sealing surface; to ensure that the end faces of the moving and static rings are tightly joined and floating. Requirements for auxiliary sealing ring materials:
1) The material has good elasticity, especially requiring good restorability and small permanent deformation;
2) It is not corroded by the fluid medium, and the expansion and contraction in the medium are not large;
3) Small friction factor and good wear resistance;
4) The use temperature range should be wide, not sticking, not hardening, brittle and losing elasticity at high and low temperatures;
5) It must have appropriate mechanical properties, such as tear strength and elongation, pressure resistance, etc., without significant deformation under pressure, and have excellent tear resistance, wear resistance and pressure resistance;
6) Easy to process and high precision can be obtained;
7) Good resistance to medium corrosion, dissolution, swelling, aging, etc., and should not pollute the medium.
As the auxiliary sealing ring, there are rubber, plastic, asbestos, expanded graphite, graphite and metal expansion ring.
Rubber ring is the most widely used auxiliary sealing ring. Commonly used rubber sealing ring materials include nitrile rubber, fluorine rubber, silicone rubber, neoprene rubber, styrene butadiene rubber and so on.
